Dell's Alienware laptops are one of the best / fastest gaming laptops in the market and they became even faster when Dell announced the Alienware M15 R4 series & Alienware M17 R4 series with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series mobile GPUs - the likes of RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 laptop GPUs. We know that the Alienware M15 R4 and M17 R4 laptops are paired with Intel's 10th gen Comet Lake-H series CPUs - the likes of Core i7 10870H and Core i9 10980HK laptop processors. But with AMD's announcement of Ryzen 5000 Series mobile CPUs back in January at CES 2021 the Intel Comet Lake-H Series mobile CPUs are no longer the fastest gaming CPUs on the market. Since Intel have not yet launched their Tiger Lake-H CPUs, the only option for Dell to stay on top of their game with the Alienware laptops is to pair the fastest NVIDIA laptop GPUs in the market with the fastest laptop CPUs in the market which happen to be from AMD, at least until Intel launches their Tiger Lake-H CPUs.

The Alleged Alienware M15 Ryzen Edition:

Today's story comes from a well know PC hardware leaker @_rogame who posted a series of tweets rumouring the specifications of the Ryzen Edition Alienware M15 laptops. As we stated earlier, the AMD Ryzen 5000 Series mobile CPUs are currently, at the time of writing this article, the fastest laptop CPUs on the market and it is only befitting for Dell to refresh / add more variants in the  Alienware line up with Ryzen 5000 offerings alongside Intel's offerings there by having the best of both worlds - staying one of the best gaming laptops with the best CPU and GPU on the market paired together and giving their customers the option to choose Intel or AMD according to their preferences.

Alleged Specifications Of Dell Alienware M15 Ryzen Edition Laptop:

Coming to the rumoured specifications of the Alienware M15 Ryzen Edition laptops, @_rogame tweeted that the Ryzen Edition laptops will be available in quite a few variants with 2 CPU variants and 2 GPUs variants as its core components.

CPU up to AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX:

Dell is rumoured to offer the Alienware M15 Ryzen edition with either the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H or AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processors, both 8 core 16 thread mobile / laptop processors with 45W TDP but the latter has higher boost clocks boosting up to 4.6GHz on single core where as the former boosts up to 4.4GHz on single core.

GPU up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070:

Coming to the GPUs that Alienware Dell is allegedly pairing with these CPUs are the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 laptop / mobile GPUs based on the Ampere architecture. Though that definitely would be a step down from the RTX 3080 mobile GPU that is being offered in the Alienware M15 R4 laptops paired with Intel's Core i7 10870H and Core i9 10989HK laptop processors.

We do not know if Dell will offer the RTX 3080 paired with the Ryzen 9 5900HX in an Alienware laptop, may be if Dell realizes that the demand for Ryzen based gaming laptops is too high to leave the RTX 3080 exclusively for Intel variants? Time will tell.

Also there is no confirmation as the what TDP the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 mobile GPUs will be running at. As @_rogame pointed out in his tweet, he is not sure if GPUs are Max-P variants or not.

    RAM up to 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz:

The Ryzen Edition Alienware laptops are also rumoured to be paired with up to 32GB of 3200MHz RAM (up from 2933MHz RAM offered in current Alienware M15 Intel variants) which is definitely a good thing given we all know how Ryzen is sensitive to RAM speeds / frequency.

Storage up to 2TB M.2 SSD:

Also the Ryzen Edition Alienware M15 laptops are alleged to come with up to 2TB of storage in the form of NVMe SSD - it will be PCIe Gen 3 M.2 NVMe SSDs as AMD decided against adding PCIe Gen 4 support to Ryzen 5000 mobile CPUs.
