AMD Radeon RX 6800 & 6800 XT India Price Announced - Cost To Performance Analysis vs NVIDIA RTX 3070, 3080

AMD India have finally announced the price for the most awaited graphics card that every Indian gamer was waiting for - AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and spoiler alert is costs way too much. AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT costs ₹64,990/- INR (excluding GST) in India where as the AMD Radeon RX 6800 costs ₹45,999+ INR (excluding GST) in India. AMD Radeon RX 6800 & 6800 XT Price In India Including GST:

Once you add GST, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT costs about ₹76,689/- INR in India. When converted to US Dollars it translates to a hefty price of $1036 USD (at a 0.014 conversion rate on the day of writing) which is a $387 USD price premium (which is about 59.63% more than the MSRP) that the Indian Consumers have to pay over what is being paid ($649) by the US consumers.

Coming to the AMD Radeon RX 6800 (non-XT) model: The Suggested Estimated Price is ₹45,990+ INR and will cost about ₹54,279/- INR or more including GST when converted to US Dollar is about $731 USD meaning Indian customers have to pay about 26.25% more compared to the US customers which is still a decent price especially when compared to what is being charged by AMD for the higher end 6800 XT model.
 
For comparison the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 costs Rs. 62,000/- INR including GST and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 costs Rs. 44,500/- in India including GST.
 

Analyzing Cost to Performance of AMD Radeon RX 6800 & 6800 XT and Comparing Against NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 & RTX 3080 In India:

This data consists of 18 Games including but not limited to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, F1 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and more. At 1080p:

At 1080p the RTX 3070 was about 9% slower than the RX 6800 but it (3070) also costs about 18% less than the RX 6800 which means at 1080p the RTX 3070 is a better value (about 10% cheaper in terms of cost per frame) in India than the RX 6800.
 
Similarly the RTX 3080 was about 5.6% slower than the RX 6800 XT but it (3080) also costs 19% less compared to the RX 6800 XT at ₹76,689/- INR. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 is about 14.4% cheaper in terms of cost per frame compared to the 6800 XT.
 
 
So if you want to game at 1080p, your choice is clear. You need more Rasterization performance or more VRAM? Go AMD. You need better value for the price you pay? Go NVIDIA. Also to be noted here are that NVIDIA has far better Ray Tracing performance and when combined with DLSS 2.0 the lead for NVIDIA over AMD is massive (watch GamersNexus review of the RX 6800 XT here for more information). AMD has SAM or Smart access memory but NVIDIA has already confirmed that they are working on a similar technology dubbed "Re-sizeable BAR".
 

At 1440p:

The trend that was seen at 1080p continues at 1440p, the RTX 3070 though 12.6% slower than AMD Radeon RX 6800 but (3070) is still a better value, albeit by a smaller margin, costing about 6% cheaper per frame compared to the RX 6800. So the answer remains the same, AMD if FPS is all you want,  NVIDIA if you want better price to performance and better Ray Tracing as well as other features like NVENC encoder for streaming.
 
Where the difference arises is at 1440p both the RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT have almost similar performance (not in all games but when the FPS in 18 games is averaged). But here the RTX 3080 costs 17% cheaper per frame compared to the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT. Considering the performance of both the cards at 1440p is almost similar but the RTX 3080 costs cheaper with better Ray Tracing performance and other features like DLSS 2.0, NVENC encoder and more, I would personally choose and suggest my friends to get the RTX 3080 unless there is a particular game that I / they like playing and it plays really well with AMD. Also one more reason to get AMD here would be the higher VRAM.
 

At 4K:

Things stay the same at 4K for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 though, it is about 13.1% slower than the RX 6800 but costs 18% cheaper meaning it still has a better cost per frame at ₹610/- per frame (about 5.6% cheaper than RX 6800 costing ₹646/- per frame).
 
But coming to the RTX 3080 and RX 6800 XT at 4K, the RTX 3080 comes out on top in almost all areas except VRAM where it has 10GB of GDDR6X memory compared to 6800XT's 16GB of GDDR6 memory. The 3080 is about 19% cheaper than 6800XT but at the same time at 4K it is also 5.1% faster than the Radeon 6800 XT GPU. Except for the fact the Radeon GPU has 16GB of VRAM and if you need it, the clear choice is to go team NVIDIA here for its cheaper cost, better performance and extra features like NVENC encoder, better Ray Tracing performance, better up-scaling with DLSS 2.0, NVIDIA Broadcast and more.
